JSTOR's Digitalia Hispánica and EBA: access to more than 130,000 ebooks through the CSIC virtual library

From 1 January 2025, CSIC staff will be able to enjoy two new ebook access services: the Digitalia Hispánica and an EBA (Evidence Based Acquisition) de JSTOR. The total number of ebooks that can be consulted thanks to both platforms amounts to more than 130,000.

Digitalia Hispanica

Digitalia hispánica

Digitalia HispánicaDigitalia Hispánica is an aggregator that offers content mainly in Spanish. Through its platform you can access the full text of more than 60,000 titles from approximately 400 publishers in Spain and Latin America. The ebooks are grouped into thematic collections in which humanities and social sciences are the main focus, although they also offer content related to science, technology and medicine.

The subscription contracted by the CSIC will allow access to all the collections offered by Digitalia Hispánica, including new titles that will be added throughout the year. These contents can be read online in multi-user mode and will also be available through electronic lending using the Adobe Digital Editions platform. The licences signed between the publishers and the platform do not allow free downloading of the contents as they are protected with DRM.

Digitalia Hispánica also allows the creation of a user account that provides additional services to the reading of ebooks, such as the creation of lists of interest for users, the consultation of active loans or viewing the loan history. All the information about these options can be consulted in “Ayuda” (Help page) of Digitalia Hispánica.

JSTOR EBA

JSTOR

JSTORThe other major novelty related to the consultation of ebooks for 2025 is the contracting of an EBA with JSTOR.

This EBA will allow access throughout 2025 to more than 70,000 ebooks from approximately 100 publishers. The books included are part of the JSTOR backfile (works published in 2022 and earlier) and cover all subject areas, with a special focus on the humanities and social sciences.

The ebooks offered through JSTOR have the additional advantage of being DRM-free, which makes them easy to download and use on any device.

The EBA will be available between 1 January and 31 December 2025. After its completion, the titles with the highest number of accesses will be acquired.

Although the EBA only covers titles published up to 2022, in the case of needing to consult more recent books, they can be requested as individual purchases by libraries or interested researchers by sending an email to comprasebook@bib.csic.es indicating title, year and ISBN if available.
