Drug comsumption is a complex, hidden and stigmatized behavior that is difficult to quantify. The analysis of wastewater for the determination of human metabolic excretion products (Wastewater Epidemiology) can offer objective real-time data on geographical and temporal patterns of drug abuse and, combined and integrated with other established methods, can offer a more clear image about this problem.
The aim of this workshop is to expose the problems associated to the consumption of illicit drugs and other substances of abuse, current indicators and measurement methods, recent research in the field of wastewater-based epidemiology, and knowledge exchange between different disciplines.
